2007 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #6

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period.

1. PLAY: Third and 10 on A's 25. Prior to the snap, wingback A33 legally goes in motion past the snapper and then slowing moves forward to his line of scrimmage so his shoulders break the plane of the snapper's waistline on the line of scrimmage.. While at this position, he runs in place for approximately one second, then back pedals and goes across the formation towards his original position. The ball is snapped while he is in motion parallel to his line of scrimmage. A33 catches a pass and is downed on A's 40.


2. PLAY: Try on B's 3. A3's kick is blocked. The ball is picked up by B72 who carries the ball into A's end zone. B63 clips (personal foul) on B's 48 during during B72's run.


3. PLAY: Third and 4 on B's 8. The score is A27-B28 with five seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation. Holder A16 rises to catch a high snap and immediately grounds the ball with a forward pass. Two seconds remain on the clock.


4. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 4. A5's field goal attempt is blocked and does not cross the neutral zone. B96 bats the grounded ball backwards from B's 6. The ball bounces on B's 1 and A77 recovers in B's end zone without the ball touching the ground in B's end zone.


5. PLAY: Third and 8 on A's 42. The game clock is running. Team A has several substitutes who linger in the huddle making it difficult for the defense to recognize legality. At about the time that the Team B coach requests a timeout, Team A breaks the huddle with more than 11 players and a flag is thrown. Timeout? Clock?


6. PLAY: Try on B's 3. The score is A28-B28. Time has expired in the fourth quarter. B48 intercepts QB A15's legal forward pass and advances across A's goal line. B63 commits a flagrant personal foul in B's end zone during B48's run.


7. PLAY: Third and 22 on A's 10. A22 muffs a handoff from QB A18 on A's 8. B96 deliberately kicks the loose ball on A's 6. A33 recovers on A's 3 and is downed on A's 19.
