2008 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #3

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: Extra period. First series. Second and 2 on B's 17. A18's legal forward pass is complete to A88 for a touchdown. B96 is flagged for roughing the passer. The penalty is accepted.

2. PLAY: Second and 12 on B's 22. B44 intercepts A14's legal forward pass on B's 4. B44's momentum is taking him into B's end zone when the ball comes out of his hand on B's 2. The ball rolls into Team B's end zone where B44 recovers while grounded.

3. PLAY: Third and 20 on A's 30. B94 grabs and twists A12's face mask as A12 is running the option. Then, A12 pitches the ball from A's 29 to back A22 who catches the untouched ball on A's 31 and advances to A's 47 where he is downed.

4. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 18. The score is A14-B20. QB A12 throws a legal forward pass to airborne A88 who receives the ball on B's 8 and, while still airborne, propels the ball forward toward B's goal line. A84 catches the ball on B's 3 and crosses B's goal line with the ball.

5. PLAY: Third and 12 on B's 42. B44 intercepts A18's legal forward pass and advances for a touchdown. Prior to the interception, A67 clips B96 as B96 slipped by A67 and is running for the passer. Time expires in the first half during the down. If an option, Team B would elect to have the penalty enforced on the kickoff.

6. PLAY: Fourth and 10 on A's 30. A6's punt sails toward the Team A sideline. No Team B player is in position to make the catch. A Team A substitute, A99, steps onto the field and catches the kick in the field of play on B's 42. A99 hands the ball to the official who throws a flag. (COMMENT: This play happened about five years ago according to an official in the game).

7. PLAY: Try on B's 3. A6's kick is blocked. B65 recovers the ball on B's 2 and, without momentum, retreats into his own end zone. As B65 is being tackled in his end zone, he throws the ball to the ground just in front of him (illegal forward pass).
