2008 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #6

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: Fourth and 6 on A's 44. The score is A22-B24. A88 is advancing down the sideline on B's 4 when B44 punches the ball out of A88's hands. The ball is bouncing in Team B's end zone when the ball hits A88's left foot that is inbounds while his right foot is on the sideline. A66 gains control of the ball while the ball is in Team B's end zone. Two seconds remain in the fourth quarter. Clock?


2. PLAY: Fourth and 2 on A's 28. B23 muffs A4's punt on B's 35 and is chasing the ball with his back to the line of scrimmage. A88 races B23 for the ball, dives and pushes B23 hard at the knees from the back on B's 30, in an attempt to get to and recover the football. A84 recovers the ball on B's 22.


3. PLAY: Third and 5 on B's 45. A16 completes a legal forward pass to A88 on B's 33 and A88 advances to B's 28 where he fumbles. B22 muffs the ball on B's 24. A39 recovers the ball on B's 18 where he is grounded. A16 was roughed by B96 while A88 was a runner.


4. PLAY: Second and 16 on B's 26. B24 grabs split receiver A82 on B's 26 before the pass is thrown, causing A82 to stumble and fall on B's 20. QB A17's pass falls just out of the reach of A82.


5. PLAY: Second and 11 on B's 41. B26 grabs split receiver A83 near the sideline on B's 38 which causes him to go out of bounds on B's 37. A83 returns in bounds immediately on B's 35 and catches a legal forward pass on B's 32 and runs for a touchdown. B56 grabs and twists A83 by the face mask on B's 2. Assume the most likely result.


6. PLAY: Third and goal on B's 8. Late in the fourth quarter, the score is A18-B21. Team A's field goal attempt is blocked behind the line of scrimmage. B56 muffs the ball on B's 12 and A33 muffs it on B's 16. The ball rolls out of bounds on B's 14. The ball never crossed the neutral zone.


7. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on A's 42. A4 punts. The untouched ball bounces on B's 2 and has penetrated the goal line plane when A88 bats the ball back into the field of play. The ball does not touch the ground in B's end zone. B44 recovers on B's 5 and advances to B's 48 where he fumbles. A67 recovers, advances and is pulled down by the face mask by B55 on B's 39. Clock?
