2008 FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

QUIZ: WEEK #7

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: Third and 8 on B's 48. A88 is near the sideline and attempts to pivot around B44. There is contact and A88 steps on the sideline but immediately returns inbounds. The covering official rules that A88 was not blocked out of bounds. A17's legal forward pass is complete to A88 who advances to B's 12 where he is downed.


2. PLAY: Third and 4 on A's 46. Team B is in a five man line with B96 directly across from tackle A77. A88 is the tight end next to A77. Prior to the snap, B96 slants toward the gap and enters the neutral zone between guard A66 and A77. A88 reacts immediately and moves.


3. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 3. A4's field goal attempt is successful. B94 wipes out the kicker with a flagrant foul and is disqualified. A4 breaks his leg. Team A takes the three points.


4. PLAY: A's ball, free kick, on A's 30. On the opening kickoff, Team A is offside. B44 catches the ball on B's 2 and his momentum carries him into B's end zone where he fumbles the ball. To prevent A2 from recovering, B44 bats the ball from B's end zone over B's end line.


5. PLAY: Third and 10 on A's 40. QB A15 scrambles, is between the tackles and just before being tackled on A's 30, he intentionally grounds the ball to save loss of yardage. During the scramble, A82 illegally blocked B22 below the waist on A's 36. B66, thinking he had sacked the QB, dances a jig in the offensive backfield and pounds his chest over and over. Team B declines the penalty for each Team A foul.


6. PLAY: Fourth and 10 on the 50. A6's punt is illegally touched by A85 on B's 24. An inadvertent whistle is sounded when the ball is bouncing on B's 16. Clock?


7. PLAY: Second and 18 on A's 32. QB A18 drops back and then throws a screen pass to A22 on A's 29. Before the ball gets to A22, he is tackled by B56 on A's 30. B23 intercepts the ball on A's 33 and runs to A's 15 where he is tackled. Clock?
