2007 NCAA FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

PRESEASON QUIZ #4: July 21, 2007


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period.

1. PLAY: Third and 16 on A's 24. The clock starts on the snap. A36 advances to A's 27 where B55 pulls A36's face mask causing A36 to fumble. B68 recovers and advances to A's 8 when an inadvertent whistle sounds. Clock?

2. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on B's 48. A4's punt is blocked and rolls to a stop on B's 32 where the ball is shortly declared dead by the covering official. During the down, A74 committed a personal foul on B's 34.

3. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on A's 32. A7's punt is blocked, lands on A's 36, takes a reverse bounce and is recovered by A67 on A's 29. Team A had only six players on the line of scrimmage. B96 commits a holding foul on A's 37 prior to A7 punting the ball.

4. PLAY: Fourth and 10 on A's 40. A7's punt rolls out of bounds on B's 10. Team A had 12 players on the field of play during the down. Team B wants the ball. Clock?

5. PLAY: Fourth and 8 on A's 42. A6 punts. A84 illegally touches the ball on B's 28 and recovers the ball on B's 22. During the down, A58 pulled B66 down by the face mask on B's 42. A84 commits a dead ball noncontact foul. Team B wants the ball.

6. PLAY: Third and 17 on B's 37. A62 contacts B99 in the neutral zone and drives him to B's 32 where he stops and remains in place. Then, A14's legal forward pass is muffed by B68 on B's 33 and caught by A62 on B's 29. A62 advances across Team B's goal line. B94 commits a dead ball noncontact foul. Clock?

7. PLAY: Third and goal on B's 16. The score is A21-B28 late in the fourth quarter. A36 advances to B's 8 where he fumbles. B96 bats the ball backward on B's 7 and the ball goes out of bounds on B's 2. The officials spot the ball on B's 2 and indicate that the clock starts on the snap. Reviewable?
