2008 NCAA FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

PRESEASON QUIZ #4: May 22, 2008


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: Try on B's 3. The score is A22-B24. B44 intercepts A17's legal forward pass, advances to B's 16 and fumbles. A66 recovers and advances across Team B's goal line. Team A had an illegal formation. B96 commits a personal foul during B66's run.


2. PLAY: Fourth and 4 on B's 24. B44 recovers A82's fumble and runs out of bounds on B's 40. Team B was offside. The game clock shows 1:59 or less in either half. The penalty is accepted. Clock?


3, PLAY: Second and 1 on B’s 31. A14 leaves the pocket and his forward pass from B’s 37 crosses the sideline on B’s 33 and lands out of bounds on B’s 24 extended. No eligible receiver had a reasonable opportunity to catch the pass. A55 was downfield when the pass was thrown.


4. PLAY: Fourth and 16 on A's 20. A4 punts. A86 commits an interference with opportunity foul on the 50. After the ball hits the ground, there is an inadvertent whistle.


5. PLAY: Fourth and 22 on A's 48. Team A is in a scrimmage kick formation. The snap is muffed by A8 and while the ball is rolling on A's 42, A8 kicks the ball downfield. B99 recovers the ball on B's 30 and advances to A's 32 where he is downed.


6. PLAY: Fourth and 34 on B's 48. The score is A28-B28. QB's legal forward pass is caught by A82. A82 advances and is downed on B's 26. B79 roughs the passer. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.


7. PLAY: Third and 12 on B's 42. As A17 drops back to pass, B23 holds A88 near the sideline on B's 38 as A88 is coming off the line. After A17 looks to A88, A17 scans the defense and throws a legal forward pass to A84 near the opposite sideline on B's 29. The pass is incomplete.
