2008 NCAA FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

PRESEASON QUIZ #6: June 9, 2008

RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: Fourth and 7 on A's 40. Before the snap, tackle B96 steps into the neutral zone in front of A77 whose head is not breaking the plane of the line drawn through the waistline of the snapper. A77 immediately moves forward in response to the movement by B96.


2. PLAY: Third and 3 on B's 33. A24 runs to B's 29 where he is knocked out of bounds with 1:59 or less on the game clock. Clock?


3. PLAY: Second and 10 on B's 20. The clock shows 0:20 in the fourth quarter. A27 advances to B's 18 and throws the backward out of bounds to conserve time. The ball goes out of bounds on B's 26. Clock?


4. PLAY: Third and 10 on A's 30. B84 intercepts A16's legal forward pass on B's 22 and advances to A's 48 where he is downed. During B84's advance, B87 blocked A82 in the back on A's 44. Team A had an illegal formation.


5. PLAY: Second and 10 on B's 25. As A88 is reaching for a catchable legal forward pass on B's 5, B33 pulls him to the ground by the facemask. The pass is incomplete.


6. PLAY: Try on B's 3. B44 intercepts A17's legal forward pass, advances and fumbles. A62 recovers and advances across Team B's goal line. Team A was in an illegal formation at the snap. B54 committed a block in the back foul during B44's run. B96 committed a personal foul during A62's run.


7. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 4. A5's field goal attempt is blocked and does not cross the neutral zone. B96 bats the grounded ball backwards from B's 6. The ball bounces on B's 1 and A77 recovers in B's end zone without the ball touching the ground in B's end zone.
