2008 NCAA FOOTBALL RULES & INTERPRETATIONS

PRESEASON QUIZ #11: August 5, 2008


RULING FORMAT: Team (A or B) in possession, down and distance, yardline and status of clock if relevant (example: A 1/10 A40, clock on snap). Include other relevant information such as extension of period and whether a 40 or 25 second play clock will be employed.

1. PLAY: Third and 8 on A's 32. A17's legal forward pass is thrown to A86 on A's 36. B44 is holding A86 and the pass bounces off A86's chest and falls incomplete.


2. PLAY: Try on B's 3. First extra period. Second series. Team A just scored to make the score A27-B28. B98 blocks the kick and runs the ball into Team A's end zone. During B98's run, B66 commits a flagrant personal foul. (NOTE: Team B scored 7 points when they were Team A on the first series)


3. PLAY: Fourth and 12 on A's 8. A4 is near his end line. After the snap, A4 steps on the end line but has both feet inbounds when he fields a low snap. A4's long punt rolls out of bounds on B's 38.


4. PLAY: Third and 8 on B's 48. A33 advances to B's 42 where he fumbles. B96 controls the ball while airborne and is pushed toward the sideline on B's 42 by A67. Before B96 lands, he "propels" the ball backward. B74 and A67 simultaneously recover the ball inbounds while grounded on B's 39.


5. PLAY: Third and 10 on B's 30. The score is A27-B28. A82 advances to B's 4 where he fumbles. The airborne fumble is batted backward on B's 6 by B93. The ball rolls through Team B's end zone. Time expires in the fourth quarter during the down.


6. PLAY: Second and 6 on B's 26. As A88 is reaching for a catchable legal forward pass on B's 15. B33 pulls him to the ground by the facemask. The pass is incomplete.


7. PLAY: Fourth and goal on B's 2. The score is A30-B35. Ten seconds remain in the fourth quarter. A8's pass is muffed by A84 and caught by A68 in B's end zone. A68 was downfield legally. Three seconds remain on the game clock. Clock?
